Star forts, or bastion forts, are 15th- to 19th-century, low-profile, star-shaped fortifications designed with angular bastions to counter cannon fire. Emerging in Italy, they feature thick, earth-filled walls and interlocking fields of fire, allowing defenders to eliminate blind spots and withstand artillery.
Arctic Food and Fresh Ice Security in Community Ice Cellars
Ice Cellar Experimental Research Tunnel (ICERT) in Fairbanks, Alaska will address the urgent need for food security in Arctic regions where ice cellars are being compromised by permafrost thaw due to global warming.
A permafrost tunnel will be excavated and a bermed pond created above a portion of the tunnel to measure and computer model the thermal effects from adding water to the surface, and storing ice inside the cellar.
The design will incorporate thermal siphons, and air vents to draw-in cold winter air and evacuate heat.
Ice blocks will be harvested from the fresh water pond, and placed inside the ice cellar to maintain below freezing temperature.
Indigenous knowledge of food preservation will be built upon to advance research and fill gaps in science for food and fresh ice security.
WATER ABOVE: Adding water on top of a portion of the tunnel to measure and computer model the thermal changes to the permafrost. Fresh water will be filled from a well into a pond, and water will be channeled through a ditch into Cripple Creek that meanders accross another zone above the ice cellar.
WATER INSIDE: Fresh ice will be havested from the pond and bought into the tunnel to measure the cooling effects.
FOOD STORAGE: Food storage lockers inside temperature controlled air vaults
PUBLIC TOURS: The public will have access inside the ice cellar for educational tours.

The Alaska School of Permafrost Architecture (ASPA) will advance food and fresh ice security, by urgently filling gaps in scientific knowledge, pertaining to the dynamics of permafrost freeze and thaw, due to added surface and subsurface hydrology, within a Permafrost Tunnel / Ice Cellar in Fairbanks, Alaska.
When Jesus had washed their feet and put on His outer garments, He reclined with them again and asked, “Do you know what I have done for you? 13 YoucallMeTeacherandLord, andrightlyso, becauseI am.14 So if I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet.
If anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing, he deceives himself. 4 Each one should test his own work. Then he will have reason to boast in himself alone, and not in someone else. 5 Foreach oneshould carryhis ownload.6 Nevertheless, the one who receives instruction in the word must share in all good things with his instructor. 7 Do notbe deceived:Godis notto be mocked.Whatevera mansows,he will reap in return.8The one who sows to please his flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; but the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.
But you are not to be called ‘Rabbi,’ for you have one Teacher, and you are all brothers. 9 And do not call anyone on earth your father, for you have one Father, who is in heaven. 10 Norare you to be calledinstructors,foryouhaveoneInstructor,theChrist.11 The greatest among you shall be your servant.
The Jews were amazed and asked, “How did this man attain such learning without having studied?” 16 “MyteachingisnotMy own,” Jesusreplied.“It comesfrom Him whosentMe.17 If anyone desires to do His will, he will know whether My teaching is from God or whether I speak on My own.
Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you.” 39 Jesus also told them a parable: “Can a blind man lead a blind man? Will they not both fall into a pit? 40 A discipleisnotabovehisteacher, buteveryone who isfully trainedwill belikehisteacher. 41 Why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but fail to notice the beam in your own eye?
We have different gifts according to the grace given us. If one’s gift is prophecy, let him use it in proportion to his faith; 7 if it isserving, let him serve;if it isteaching, let him teach;8 if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is giving, let him give generously; if it is leading, let him lead with diligence; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully.
